JAMES LEE born in Seoul, Korea in 1985, moved to Britain at age 8 and enrolled in the Purcell school in 1997 as a Government scholarship student. He continued his studies with Itzhak Rashkovsky at the Royal College of Music (BMus, Foundation Scholarship), and at the Royal Academy of Music (MMus, Sir Elton John Scholarship) with professor Erich Gruenberg. He has performed solo and chamber works in such venues as the Wigmore Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Purcell Room, St Martin-in-the-fields, and abroad in Europe, U.S., Russia, Canada and Israel, including in such venues as Tel Aviv Performing Arts Center, Israeli Opera (Israel), Bolshoi Theatre and The Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory (Russia). He has performed as concerto soloist with orchestras such as the Haifa Symphony Orchestra, RCM Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonica Rumena Paul Constantnescu, Dohnanyi Orchestra Budafok, and the Moscow Symphony Orchestra. He is a laureate of the Sion Valais International Violin Competition, Switzerland (2007), Lipizer International Violin Competition, Italy (2007), Moscow Paganini International Violin Competition, Russia (2004) and the Kloster-Schontal International Violin Competition, in Germany (2003).
James has participated in music festivals such as the Bowdoin International Music Festival (US), and the Keshet Eilon Violin Mastercourse (Israel) working with artists and professors such as Shlomo Mintz, Ida Haendel, Lewis Kaplan, Vadim Gluzman, Hagai Shaham and Ani Schnarch. James has received numerous awards from the Philharmonia Orchestra Martin Music Scholarship Fund, Hattori Foundation and is the winner of the prestigious Emily English Award (MBF). He is currently reading Theology (BA) at Wycliffe Hall, University of Oxford. |
