I am a Head of Music Department in a local Secondary School for the last eight years . Friendly, approachable and patient tutor who will structure lessons to suit the students wishes, whether this be for fun or for more serious study, such as practical exams with ABRSM and help with GCSE Music or BTEC First Performance. I have been playing the violin for 25 years and teaching for the past nine years.
I have taught in a comprehensive school setting for the last 10 years and been Head of Department for the last 8. I also currently have over 10 private pupils who are all working towards their ABRSM examinations from Grade 1 to Grade 8. Any age and ability is welcome.
Starting September 2011 I will also be teaching from the Rockschool Piano Syallabus and entering pupils via the MTB Exams for those who do not wish the stress of attended formal examinations.
I structure lessons to your needs, attitude to practice and musical ability. In general, I like lessons to be a fun and creative environment. However, if studying for exams, I will expect additional committment to practice to allow steady and productive progress. This does not mean that they cannot still be fun!
I have experienced the other side of tutoring, during my time at school, and take these experiences on board when tutoring. I spend a lot of time outside of the sessions creating interesting and innovative resources and thinking of different ways of approaching topics
Different students achieve at different rates and I always take this into consideration when teaching. Progress is always monitored and set at a pace that I feel is suitable. Students will be set targets for achievment and pushed ahead to achieve when necessary. The development of technique, strength and dexterity of the hands is important and will be incorporated into the lesson. |
